Random Beer and Gin dates with friends are always welcome in my world. When my friend suggested we take a break from work and go grab a quick lunch at Giles Pub in Parkhurst I was only too happy to oblige. I am surprised I have never been here before seeing as I hang around Craighall & Parkhurst on a regular. I was also pretty shocked to know that this pub has has stood on the same corner since 1994 so my usual “I’m sure it’s new,” excuse didn’t work this time when trying to explain why I have never been here lol. Anyway there is always a first time for everything and I am sure it won’t be my last time either. Seeing as my friend is a regular here we were treated with the most efficient and respectful service. We decided to have lunch out on the deck overlooking Craighall Park valley which made for the perfect lunch atmosphere. For lunch we asked the waitress to give us some suggestions and she confidently steered us towards Andy’s Fish & Chips and the Grilled Calamari & Salad which she says are her favourite.

Andy’s Fish n Chips – Our waitress ain’t never lied it was indeed fresh fish, great batter and the perfect slap chips. Simple yet satisfying.

Grilled Calamari & Salad – this meal was refreshingly light, delicious and paired well with the Gin & Tonic.

The Bar – you can expect a surprisingly long wine list and lots and lots of beer from the Castle Tank!!!

A perfect blending of the old with the new makes Giles an inviting spot for after work drinks . You can also tell everyone who comes here knows each other, it’s one of those Craighall residents regular hangout spots. I’m pretty sure I will hang out here more often every time I am in Jozi. It’s chilled and you will proper enjoy yourself without emptying your pockets.
