Immerse Yourself In The Divine World Of Chocolate At Steenberg This International Chocolate Day

The evolution of chocolate has taken us on a delectable journey from its very beginnings. From being a popular beverage in earlier times to the creation of the solid chocolate bar by British chocolatier Joseph Fry in 1847, chocolate has become an iconic treat cherished worldwide.

Ahead of International Chocolate Day on 7 July, to honour this beloved indulgence, Steenberg Farm invites chocolate enthusiasts to visit Tryn and Bistro Sixteen82, where Executive Chef Kerry Kilpin and her team showcase their exquisite chocolate creations.

Chef Kilpin’s undeniable love affair with chocolate is evident in the indulgent chocolate desserts that she expertly crafts. Her inspiration for these mouthwatering wonders, stems from a genuine adoration for the sweet delight. Chef Kilpin shared a personal anecdote, revealing her deep love for chocolate. “I LOVE chocolate. To give you a glimpse of my profound affection for chocolate, when I was 16 years old, I returned to South Africa from a period in Switzerland carrying 15 kilograms of the glorious burgundy bars in my hand luggage!” This wholehearted enthusiasm fuels her creativity in the kitchen, resulting in irresistible desserts that captivate the senses.

At Tryn, Chef Kilpin collaborates with pastry Chef Mark to bring chocolate dreams to life. Among their remarkable creations is the Dark Chocolate Sphere, a playful twist on a fondant. This heavenly pleasure features a crisp – coated chocolate exterior and an enticing liquid centre, sure to tempt even the most discerning chocolate connoisseur. Another masterpiece, the Dark Chocolate Gateaux, showcases the ultra-sophisticated side of chocolate. With a velvety tonka bean mousse and 64% chocolate, this dessert offers a rich and decadent experience.

A visit to Tryn would be incomplete without savouring their signature chocolate truffles. Embossed with Tryn’s swan emblem, these delectable confections capture the playful spirit of the pastry department. Evolving with the seasons and the creative imagination of the culinary team, these truffles offer an ever-changing selection of flavours that leave a lasting impression.

Meanwhile, at Bistro Sixteen82, Chef Kilpin’s choice of chocolate is Valrhona, renowned for its exceptional quality. The chocolate marquise, a luscious and silky chocolatey dessert, takes centre stage. With a 59% chocolate content, it embodies the phrase “death by chocolate” in the most divine way. The richness and depth of the chocolate is perfectly balanced, transporting you to a realm of pure chocolate bliss.

Whether you choose to visit Tryn or Bistro Sixteen82, the celebration of International Chocolate Day serves as a delightful reminder of the irresistible allure and enduring joy that chocolate brings to our lives.
