Three Ships Whisky Launches Its 7th Annual Limited-Edition Master’s Collection To Celebrate A #SummerUncorked

It’s time again for the much anticipated annual Three Ships Whisky limited-edition Master’s Collection live online sale, happening on Wednesday 30 November from 12 pm. During this sale, the first 400 of only 2 586 individually numbered bottles of this release will find their way into the drinks cabinets of a few lucky whisky enthusiasts.

This summer-inspired special release is the first Chenin Blanc Cask Finish produced on the African continent and also Africa’s first “Coffey malt” – an industry term for a malted barley mash which has been fermented and is then distilled in a column still and not the traditional pot stills. True testimony to South African ingenuity and the Three Ships Whisky’s brand promise “Made Exceptional, Made Here”.

During the winter of 2016, Master Distiller Andy Watts column distilled malted barley, creating a lighter style of the usually complex malt whisky. The whisky was matured in American Oak of varying ages for four years before being finished in seasoned Chenin Blanc casks for two years.

Boldly matured under the South African sun, this 6-Year-Old Chenin Blanc Cask Finish is an extraordinarily gentle but intricate whisky, suitable for both aspiring and more advanced whisky drinkers alike. With an inviting finish of lingering soft spice, tropical fruit and zesty lemon from the seasoned Chenin Blanc casks, it’s no surprise that this special release pairs perfectly with beautiful summer days.

Just like a bottle of Chenin Blanc is uncorked to be enjoyed in summer, this rare whisky offers up all the fresh and fragrant flavours of summer with each sip. Its vibrant golden colour reminds one of a joyous sunset, whereas its exceptional flavour profile signifies the innovation of the whiskies produced at the award-winning James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington.

Un-chillfiltered, natural colour and bottled at a strength of 46.3%, presented in its most refined form, this collector’s item is warm and luxurious, just like the South African sun it’s matured by. For a perfect serve of the 6-Year-Old Chenin Blanc Cask Finish, savour it neat or add a splash of water to open up the whisky’s flavour.

Whisky enthusiasts who want to take part in the Master’s Collection live sale are strongly encouraged to pre-register for a chance to get their hands on their very own limited-edition bottle for R749.95. The sale will be going live on 30 November at 12pm sharp, preceded by a virtual discussion with Master Distiller Andy Watts and winemaker and Chenin Blanc expert, Pieter Badenhorst, starting at 11am. This is the perfect opportunity to find out everything you want to know about this special collector’s item and its unique distillation process. Click here to register.
