Mapungubwe National Park And Heritage Site

So this past weekend my family and I  took a break from the city and headed to Alldays, Limpopo for a much deserved break. While there we made a day stop at  Mapungubwe National Park & Heritage Site for an enjoyable game drive through the majestic African bush. The breathtaking views and the sounds of African Wildlife was just the breath of fresh air we needed. The serenity was rejuvenating and pure bliss for the soul. Mapungubwe is home to 4 of the Big 5, as well as a wealth of other smaller creatures and bird species.

On our drive we managed to come across 7 Elephants,  a whole lot of Zebra, Monkeys and Gemsbok, some Giraffes a Crocodile and all kinds of Bird Species. We weren’t fortunate enough to come across any of the big cats but the 2 and a half hour drive and thirty minute hike was packed with amazing views. The park’s sandstone formations, gigantic baobab trees and bushveld  were pure perfection while the confluence of the mighty Limpopo and Shashe Rivers would have been majestic if the rivers weren’t so dry. You can also see the meeting point of South Africa, Botswana and  Zambia from the viewing decks.

This is truly a one of the best Game Reserves in Africa and it just so happens to be in my home province of Limpopo.  If you are looking for a peaceful holiday that embodies grace and elegance, yet oozes unsurpassed warmth and hospitality then Mapungubwe is that perfect place. The prices are also very reasonable, they have packages to suite all needs which is another reason why they are one of the best. Perfect place for a family vacation, perfect place to also go do some soul searching.

  1. Mapungubwe is truly a magical place 🙂 Random question, but have they fixed all those terrible potholes on the road there (outside the park)? I was there last year and it was quite bad 😛
