I think it safe to say that South African’s have officially fallen hook, line and sinker for gin. With the recent new-wave of craft gins, I am always happy to find restaurants that have a great selection to pick from and my favourite gin spot 011 Dainfern is one of the best in Johannesburg. I stopped by for lunch today as they had a gin festival taking place and some of my favourites where present so you best believe I made sure to enjoy them all :).

My top selection for today was the Hendricks Gin which I enjoyed with Schweppes Tonic, Mint Leaves & Cucumber Slices, which made for a very refreshing cocktail to enjoy throughout the day. For lunch I tried out the Buttermilk Chicken Burger which I must is one of the most delicious burgers I have had so far in 2018. The chicken was juicy it just melted in your mouth, the red cabbage was super fresh and crisp and the buttermilk crumb was just perfect, not overwhelming at all. Who knew buttermilk on a burger would work so beautifully, hands down the best meal on the menu if you ask me. My friends on the other hand tried the Napoletana Pasta and the 300g Rump both meals were delicious and well cooked but not as amazing as the burger lol.

The Gin Fest vibe was pretty chilled which was nice, would have loved for the flow from the restaurant to the outdoor festivities to be more seamless. The Windows were blocked by the gin bars which meant if you were inside you couldn’t enjoy the outside scenery, which would have been nice. Other than that I like the idea of having a gin fest at the restaurant on a regular, I am a big fan of relaxed vibes and this one was a good fit. Can’t wait for the next one.

If you guys are looking for a kick*ss gin spot then try the 011 Dainfern out. You can look at spending about R450 for 3 on food which is pretty reasonable if you ask me since the food is of such good quality. When it comes to drinks the cocktails are also reasonably priced which is fantastic since we all know craft gins are super expensive. The service here is also on point which is not something you often find at busy restaurants but the 011 team have service delivery on lock. Great place for afternoon cocktails in a nice safe environment.
