A Stranger’s Heart

You stole my heart long before we ever met. Your star shone the brightest,  your smile warmer than most. I was captivated by the way your eyes seemed to light up with your smile. When we finally met, I knew you had me and that I loved you long before we met.

I loved you long before you knew what love is.
I loved you warts and all and the most unashamedly.
I loved you with everything pure within me.
Your weird behaviour, unpredictable nature and your selfish desire for instant happiness.
I loved you still.

I loved you long before I had a name to put to the face or you a face to put to the name.
I loved you long before our first kiss and the rose I bought off the stranger on the street.
As I watched you, drunk and sleeping on my futon, threatening to throw up at any moment,  I knew.
I knew I loved you more than I should.
loveI loved you long before you knew what love is.
I loved your crazy antics as you sang and danced across the dance floor.
I loved you before I saw your passion for anything you loved.
The innocence and honesty with which you spoke of your dreams and aspirations.
I loved you before I told you that you would be great.

I loved you long before you knew what love is.
I loved you when you didn’t know how to show love back.
I loved you when your lies hurt me.
I loved you when you continued to entertain him and others in my presence thinking I couldn’t see.
I loved you when I knew you could never be loyal to me.

I love you, did you ever find out what love truly is?
I love you, time has not washed away nor faded any of it.
I love you every time I miss you but cant and wont contact you.
I love you, of all the strangers I have met it was your heart that taught me how to love, perfectly, purely without any ulterior motives.
I loved you long before you knew what love is…
