So a colleague of mine suggested that I go try out the burgers at The Great Burger Company in Illovo on Thursday. She promised me that it would be one of the best burger experiences I would have all year. So trust me when I say that my level of excitement and expectation was on 110%. Once we arrived we were welcomed by friendly faces and then seated at a very comfortable table. Our friendly waiter then went on to take our drinks orders, ” a bottle of Fat Bastard Chardonnay please” to which he promptly obliged. After bringing our wine he then gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat and since my friend had been craving Chicken Wings all day we decided to order the wings and the Chicken Burger with Cheese fries.
We were
extremely lazy to think about building our own burgers so hence why we just ordered the already put together menu items. The Chicken wings were of
good quality, cooked to perfection and not overly seasoned and sauced. Everything we experienced to this point was
totally on par with my colleagues descriptions, the
service was beyond great (at some point I think I asked them to stop being so nice LOL) and the
chicken wings perfect. Now on to the Burger to be honest
it wasn’t the best burger I have ever had
but it was right up there with the best. The chicken was
juicy and the seasoning on it added that extra zing to the tastebuds. The
overall winner for the night though was the
Shoe String Cheese Fries my goodness those things were
delicious such a great guilty pleasure. The fries were
crispy and not greasy making the addition of the
melted cheese a perfect match.
Great place with superb service and the
awesome vibe in Illovo will have you on cloud nine. You can
look at spending R300 for two add two bottles of wine to that and its R550 for two,
very reasonable if you ask me! The
restaurant closes at 10pm on a Thursday but let me tell you guys
the team here is so awesome, they
kept the restaurant and bar open until 11:30pm just so my friends and I could have a
relaxed Thursday night. Now if that is not
some stellar service then I don’t know what it! The only thing that sucks about this place is that the
owner is a Liverpool Fan LOL (I’m a huge Man United Fan he he he he)

How has your trip been so far?
Absolutely superb. Am in Cape Town today sitting on the balcony overlooking Sea Point pool while watching the Cape cycle race go by. Going to the festival of bubbles this afternoon at the Vineyard hotel – I am a huge champagne fan. Did lots of wine tasting, will post about it all in a few days. Going to miss it!
