Making A Delicious Lamb Potjie

We finally managed to convince a friend of ours who hates cooking to make Thursday night dinner. Surprisingly and I mean we were super surprised he made us a delicious Lamb Potjie! Yes we still can’t believe it either but hey I guess we all have that one trick we keep for special moments and boy was this a great time to bring out the magic! I’m still stuck on the fact that he even knows how to cook Lol, I can’t stop laughing while writing this post but written it must be. You learn something new about your friends everyday I guess. His potjie was hearty, full of flavour, lamb was succulent and pretty darn delicious a great traditional dinner with amazing friends!

Here is his recipe hope you guys get the same results πŸ™‚

INGREDIENTS:

Cooking Oil
800g lamb
Chopped onions
Sliced Carrots
Handful green beans, cut them in half
250g mushrooms
Baby potatoes
Baby mielies
Salt and pepper

METHOD:

Heat the oil in a large, heavy black pot and fry the meat and onions until brown. Season meat with salt and pepper.
Add enough water to cover the meat and a glass of red wine, lower the heat and let the meat simmer for about 60-90 minutes (until tender).
Add the potatoes and mielies.
Make a mix of mushroom and brown onion sauce, add a bit of chutney sauce and add this to the pot.
Close the lid and leave to simmer.
When the first set of veggies are halfway done, add the green beans and mushrooms
Serve with pap.

Happy Friday – True friends cook for each other so make sure your friends invite you over for a meal πŸ™‚

  1. Looks amaze! I haven’t had a proper potjie in about 5 years! And, I hope you had leftovers so you could enjoy it all over again the next day! Always tastes better the following days too!!
