Lunch At Van Der Linde, Linden – Review

Van der Linde affectionately known by locals in the area as VDL, has quickly become part of Linden’s burgeoning culinary scene and offers diners something distinctive and special. It is a light and airy restaurant that also incorporates a bakery, a deli, a wine shop and a stunning gin and cocktail bar.

The restaurant offers separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus as well as a dedicated vegan menu. For lunch last week Friday my friends and I decided to pop by and try out some of their goodies including the signature VDL classic beef burger, the fabulous Moroccan Lamb Salad (best dish of the day) and the Beer Battered Kabeljou with Chips, creamy garlic aioli and green herb sauce.. All the dishes were full of flavour and  cooked to perfection, quality fresh cut meats, fresh vegetables and crispy golden fries.

The whole restaurant from the decor to the food styling gives you some serious Cape Town vibes, a perfectly relaxed hangout for cocktails after work. Adjacent to the restaurant is a small boutique wine shop with a private dining room, which is ideal for wine tastings and pairings, it’s also perfect for small birthday dinners.

When it comes to the lunch and dinner prices, like most Cape Town hot spots it is slightly pricey (nothing too crazy) but worth every cent. Before I forget the VDL Deli makes some of the best freshly baked goods you will ever find in Johannesburg. On weekends from 08:00, it is  packed with diners taking advantage of the amazing harvest table, which features various freshly baked croissants, muffins, scones, bagels and all the various breads made in-house (ciabatta, sourdough, farmhouse, rye etc.) as well as a selection of cold meats (hams, salami and other chacuterie), fish (smoked salmon, cooked salmon, roll mops, herring, mackerel), eggs to order, yoghurts, fruit and quinoa granola, rounded off with a cup of tea or freshly brewed coffee. All for only R145!

VDL is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday and for breakfast and lunch on Sundays and Mondays. Definitely going back to try their famous breakfast menu. VDL is definitely on my list of favourites for 2019. Great friendly service matched with amazing quality food
