5 Reasons Why No One Visits Your Blog

Hello again ASA friends, so a couple of you have been requesting that I do another blogging tips post, that focuses specifically on how to grow your blog readership. I figured instead of giving you the usual blah blah that you are used to finding on Google Search, I would rather share “5 Reasons Why No One Visits Your Blog” instead and the things you should start doing to change that. These are common things that we are all guilty of doing that can easily be changed by a simple change in mindset. I hope this is helpful and worth the read, here goes:

1. Your content is not shareable: Every time you write something new for your blog ask yourself this simple question, ” Would I share this across my social media?” If your answer is no then what makes you think anyone else would? One of the key ways to get more people visiting your blog is by making sure the content on it is easily discover-able across all networks and this will only happen when more people share your content and thus helping you reach new audiences. Always make sure your content is designed to share. A simple thing that has helped me grow my blog audience is making sure every now and again I ask my readers to give me suggestions or their opinions on certain topics turning the posts into a two way conversation that makes people comfortable enough to want to get involved in. Create content that will spark conversation.

2. You never respond to your readers: No matter how many engagements you get always try and respond to most of them. We all get caught up in our own egos and forget to actually be more involved in our blogs than just simply putting content out. Engaging with your readers on a regular creates relationships and appointment return visits. This builds a loyal follower base that ends up spreading a positive word about your blog on these online streets and ends up bringing you more traffic. Every time I respond to people who engage with me on a regular I find that they end up sharing my content more. Always show the people who support you appreciation they are the ones that will bring in the major traffic you want to your blog. Also don’t send automated responses I personally unfollow people who send out automated responses, if you are not going to do it right then don’t bother at all. fotorcreateed

3. You never engage with other blogs/bloggers: You are always so focused on your own blog that you don’t realise that when you do something as simple as commenting on other peoples blog posts you are leaving your digital footprint in a space for their readers to see. We are all curious beings and every once in awhile we end up clicking on someones profile in the comments section and end up being redirected to THEIR BLOG, right 🙂 = new reader. My rule is everyday I need to comment on at least 10 different blogs and I find that every time I do that I get new followers or likes on my content. I also make sure I follow other bloggers and build conversations with them which ends up in my posts getting featured on their blogs.

4. You don’t tag your content: This is something I used to forget doing. Now it’s one of the first things I do before I even start writing my post when I know what it’s going to be about. Guys, tags help people find your content, most of my posts are about food and travel so I always make sure the tags are common key terms that people who love food and travel would search for on a regular. Also don’t over tag your posts make sure to always stay withing a maximum of 8-12 tags depending on which blogging platform you use so that you don’t start getting picked up as spam and end up not showing in the search results. If your blog is about poetry then make sure you use key terms such as “poetry”, “personal writing”, “emotional” etc so that when people who search for those can find your content easy.fotorcreated

5. You focus too much on the numbers: This happens when you are doing this blogging thing for all the wrong reasons. If your main goal is to make quick cash then you my friend are setting yourself up for failure. Just because you are seeing this massive trend of superstar bloggers and social media stars who earn big bucks and assume it’s easy to do, let me tell you right now IT IS NOT! Most of these people you are seeing have most likely been doing it for years and finally got their big break after many failed attempts. Trust me when I say if you are not going to work on making sure your content is great then your blog will most likely fail. This is my 3rd blog and attempt at blogging and I have only now started to get it slightly right. These things take time and it’s only once in a while that you get the odd 1 or 2 major over night successes. These things all have a time and sometimes the time is just not right for you. One day unicorns are in fashion and the next day they are not. What you need to do is learn to evolve. Make sure that your content is always valuable then the people will follow. Sometimes having big numbers doesn’t mean anything if they are not the right numbers. Trust me when I say your content is what will keep people coming back and not how many followers you have. Sometimes it’s the smaller guys that have more influence so don’t always wish for the big numbers. Work for the right ones.

I hope this post has helped you guys and if you have any suggestions on what my next one should be about please let me know in the comments below or you can always email me. Happy Tuesday and Happy Blogging. There’s enough space on these online streets for all of us to make it so trust me when I say your time will come don’t give up. If you would like me to visit your blog then be sure to leave your links in the comments as well! 🙂

Side note: please don’t judge my grammatical errors lol it’s been a long day I will fix them later

  1. Spot on tips! Regarding #1…I would have to imagine this is intended for social interaction blogs only, when writing or composing poetry one must share what they feel inside, not always appropriate to some but they don’t have to read it.

  2. The automated response is something that annoys me greatly too. I find it happens a lot on Twitter after you follow someone who is maybe trying a little too hard to grow their numbers. :/

  3. Thank you for sharing these tips. I’ve just started blogging this first day ofJanuary and I am trying my best to adhere to a schedule I can possibly follow with my busy schedule at work and my studies (I am taking a Master’s Degree in Public Administration) as I’ve learned from another wise blogger here in WordPress. I hope I can indeed find my own niche in the world of blogging and gain a good number of followings thereafter.

  4. This is very informative.

I am a newbie blogger and I find I spend a lot of time commenting on other blogs, but they really can’t be bothered to reply to comments and they don’t care to be courteous and even grace your blog with their presence. There’s a tight clique in SA blogging and not a very welcoming spirit. Everybody seems more concerned that you’re going to encroach on their game.

I blog for the love of it. …so not bothered about the numbers, but I’d love a few loyal readers. Many readers email me or FB message me and I wish they’d give that feedback in the comments section. Despite me trying to engage in the actual blog post, I think perhaps some people (or only my very small audience) Dont get it?

    1. The South African blogging marketing is still a tough cookie to crack. So don’t worry you are not alone but maybe put your focus on other markets and not just SA. For me since I like showcasing what SA has to offer I make sure to engage readers from other countries and places. Keep at it people will eventually get the point. I will be sure to follow your blog 🙂

      1. Thank you so much for the feedback and advice. I will be sure to focus a bit more on my blog. I think at the moment I can be a bit chaotic and I also don’t plan. It’s more a hobby for me, but it’s no excuse to be all over the place in terms of my content and lack of direction.

    2. You have a lovely blog 🙂 just a tip though your font is really small so for people like me who have bad eye sight struggle to read it if I don’t have my glasses. Just something to note for other readers might cause people to drop off without finishing an article.

  5. HELLO!! Loved your blog! I have just started a NEW blog and I would really like you to check it out and see if you like it as I have only just started THANKYOU – WildGirl xox

  6. I found your advice very helpful. Thanks as well for visiting my blog. I write about spirituality, contemplation, and share my own poetry. Please fell free to alert others to its existence. You write well.

  7. Thanks for this post. I do follow one or two blogs who’s primary focus is the re-blogging of other blogger’s material. There is a role for reblogs (I re-blog other people’s content from time to time). However I find that blogger’s who focus entirely (or almost exclusively) on sharing other’s posts tend not to attract many followers as people are looking for unique content not rehashing of other individual’s work. There are some very good sites who re-blog often but they, are in my experience the exception which proves the rule. I agree about the importance of taggs. Kevin

  8. I couldn’t agree more with the point about commenting on other blogs and making sure that you spread the love with your fellow bloggers. It seems counterintuitive in the real world competitive mode of doing things especially if you’re the kind who thinks that commenting on a blog means less comments for you. Trust this writer on this topic. I can say for sure that points above are mostly true.

  9. Man, these tips sure change some ideas I was formerly told about blogging… ha ha!
but yeah, the thing about liking, commenting and following other blogs is so true man!

  10. Sir I am Deepak from India. I started my blog last month and found no follows and likes I was facing these problems which u mentioned…but now I am motivated reading your post and also gained knowledge! Thank you very much😃

  11. Ah the numbers battle. I think it’s partly because some bloggers make others feel inferior with their stats and that’s why we become obsessed with it. I’m also so glad you mentioned the money issue because everyone really is not into blogging for the purpose of making money. A blog is a great platform that can lead you to many things if done right.

  12. Thanks for this- I personally need to work on point number four. Going to carve out some time this weekend to work on key tags!

  13. I actually had no idea about the tags to keep them between 8 and 12. I’m a serial overtagger. Does that mean I should go through my posts and edit tags?

    1. Edit the tags and in future keep them to a minimum so you avoid being flagged as spam and showing lower in search. 🙂

  14. Wonderful advice for a ‘newbie’ like me. Many thanks. You have just injected me with a dose of confidence and the will to win. From the comments I see I’m not the only one who needs help in finding followers.

  15. Another thing I would like to add which i’m so guilty of is inconsistency. Uploading once a month won’t get you loyal followers so right now i’m working on being consistent and posting at least once a week, on a bad week. I’m also guilty of blogging for the wrong reasons but I also really enjoy it. I realised focusing on the money will only hinder your success
